African style "tweets"

This laughing dove, our latest fan, dropped into the Victoria Falls office to take the term "landing page" to another level

...or perhaps he was just figuring out how to "tweet".

Like our clients he wasn't pigeonholed but other Facebook friends had a bit to say about him

We've been having more fun online, try some of these: how Ridgebacks deal with the cold; the "lions" miss all their tackles; "how fast rain actually falls", ranger training and more...     Zambezi Safaris on Facebook

Good, good, good, good migrations!

As any safari fan will tell you, it's often the least expected wildlife gems that put a big smile on your face.

But when an awe-inspiring, epic natural spectacle comes together in all its gob-smacking glory, and you're in the right place at the right time...well that just can't be beaten!

That's why this month we're celebrating great migration safaris....in the Serengeti (Tanzania), Masai Mara (Kenya) and Kasanka (Zambia)

Wildebeest migration from Rekero, Kenya

The trick to planning a migration safari is to find the right spot, away from the crowds, staying at smaller outfits. Here are just a few ideas to whet your appetite.

10 Day Kenya Migration Safari

Combine the thrill of seeing the Great Migration in the iconic Masai Mara with the majesty of Mt Kilimanjaro, and a tranquil escape at a wonderfully secluded ocean bolthole.

6 Day Short Serengeti Migration Safari

Arguably THE definitive migration safari, with the flexibility to get into the very best spots in and around the Serengeti with some of the best gu1des in East Africa, many miles away from anyone else.

What could be better, roaming around the Serengeti in the wake of the migration! We include two nights in neighbouring Loliondo conservation area to offer the contrast of night drives and walking safaris. These safaris operate on set departures but can also be offered on request.

FABULOUS H0LIDAY IN SOUTHERN AFRICA
The Lion Encounter safari in Zambia was truly amazing. My wife was beaming from ear to ear after walking with a pair of 4 month old female lion cubs and getting up close and personal, it is a memory we will both treasure for the rest of our lives.

All my very best regards,

Principe - the first completely ecologically run tropicalisland economy: The government of Sao Tome/Principe and independent investors have entered into a strategic partnership, aimed at developing the sustainable tourism potential of Africa's second smallest country.

Congo Basin Safaris: if you've experienced most of the traditional haunts in Africa you'll understand why we're constantly going back to places where the boundaries get pushed.  Here's a refresher on Chris's Congo/CAR library from a few years ago, another from Bryan Jackson's Gabon/CAR library.  We're looking into Odzala later this year...drop a note for 2012.

African grey parrots in the Congo basin

Epicurean Safaris: Who's up for champagne and oysters at Harbour House, Confit duck at River Cafe, Tapas at Steenberg's Bistro 1682 or Karoo lamb at Monneaux's ?  These are just a few of the hand-picked and in some instances, award winning eating places on offer from Cape Town. Simple stops during exclusive cellar tours in the Cape region.  Available from our friend Sandy Wood.

The Serengeti Highway: ...get the latest on the Stop the Serengeti Highway campaign, a year on.

  • "... has received assurance on the part of the Tanzanian government that the highway project is abandoned."...

  • "we do not consider this the last word in the Serengeti Highway saga by any means"....

  • "no clarity yet on the government's real intentions and deep suspicion is felt that this is a sm0ke and mirrors exercise"

This campaign is far from over!

A "Gooney Bird" over Kenya: One of the world's best known aircraft, an iconic DC3 registered as "5Y WOW" and named "Furahah" (Swahili for Happiness) is now based on Mombasa.  Furahah the Gooney Bird

She's a recently modified aircraft with a longer fuselage, lightweight floor, 32 seats with extra leg space, a modern suite of avionics and new powerful turbine engines.

She's flying daily services to the Masai Mara or available for flights through East Africa.

One of us will have to test her out!

Scottish GameFair 2011: We kicked off our UK summer shows at Scone Palace, Perth.  Met lots of old friends, enjoyed outstanding weather and look forward to getting back up north same time next year!

News from the Zambezi gang

  • We're delighted to welcome Liz Read to the Victoria Falls office, a horse riding whizz who's chomping at the bit to get everyone in the saddle.
  • Chris, Helen, Liz, Char and Delene are feeling the cold as winter sets in down south.  Find out how the dogs keep warm!
  • John and Trish have safely returned from a fortnight-long self-imposed exile in a far-flung fisherman's cottage in Ireland.  (a 2 hour walk to the nearest tavern, a 2 hour MTB ride to the nearest general dealer)
  • In the meantime we're gearing up for the CLA Fair and Birdfair in the UK! CLA is at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire from 22 to 24 July, we're in Row D, Stand 538.

Here's a parting glare from one of the Berrys' newest friends on their non-African exploration...this should really be kept unpublished but here's the portfolio anyway!
